I am so excited AND grateful.
Yes, I actively practice gratitude daily, so while this is nothing new, it’s important to remind myself of just how grateful I am.
And here we are, 3rd year in a row, where I am asked to be a part of the Tapping World Summit.
If you don’t know what this is or even means, that’s ok. I’ll break it down for you!
See, the Tapping World Summit is something I’ve been personally following for the last 9 years. Weird to think it’s been that long. Yikes. Haha.
But I first stumbled upon the whole concept of EFT tapping (EFT being short for Emotional Freedom Techniques, which you can learn more about HERE and HERE) while working on a military base just south of Washington, DC.
While there, I was a contractor, part of the PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and TBI (traumatic brain injury) initiative. And as my job was to see at least 51% of people with either of these diagnoses, the cases and patients began rolling in. While there I was, as I reflect now, somewhat unprepared.
And no, I don’t mean I wasn’t equipped to deal with these patients. It was that I had tools that were not completely necessary nor particularly helpful for these folks. I was trained in a traditional Freudian program, psychoanalytic in nature (think id, ego, superego, and defenses). While this was great as a base, or foundation if you will, what I began to notice was that it was at times re-traumatizing to my patients. When I would have them drudge up certain past events to talk through, I would see the resistance, trauma, and physical discomfort arising in their entire being.
At that point I began to think, there’s gotta be a better way to deal with this.
So the search and research began. And EFT happened to be one of the first interventions I came across that boasted to tackle and at times heal trauma in a safe, effective, and natural way.
“What?!? This is too good to be true! But sign me up, please!!!”
I proceeded to go through my trainings and the rest, as they say, is history.
I have been using this technique in most, if not all, of my sessions from that point on.
I have seen tremendous benefits and outcomes that would not have been possible with traditional talk therapy – at least with the kind I was employing, and definitely not in the same amount of time I have seen. Not only does it seem to be more effective, but it works over a shorter period of time and with longer lasting results.
The reasons are numerous. Without getting too deep into them, I’ll say that a) the client/patient is able to make connections about why they are feeling certain things (i.e., how far do those feelings, beliefs go back); b) they are able to connect both the mind and the body in their healing (as opposed to only the mind/brain in traditional talk therapy); and c) their cortisol levels (i.e., the stress hormone that runs rampant in so many of us) are literally lowered, which means we can think through things and issues with a clearer mind than when stressed and overwhelmed.
So perhaps you can see the reasons why I became a big fan of this technique. Consequently the reason why I began following the Tapping World Summit that began circa 2008. I missed it those first couple of years, but since have been following and have been intrigued as well as positively impacted by the many speakers and experts they have.
Fast-forward to receiving an email from Jessica Ortner three years ago, her asking me to be a part of this event.
“What?! Are you sure you have the right person? Did you mean to ask another Damon?!?”
Needless to say, I was floored, honored and excited all at the same time.
Yet not too overwhelmed to say “of course!! I’m down, sign me up!!”
I have been fortunate to receive such positive feedback about these last 2 summits I’ve been a part of and am back for a 3rd year in a row – this time to talk about unresolved grief. What it is, what it looks like, and how to begin to address and consequently heal it. What an honor, yet again.
In the meantime, I’ve had the honor and pleasure of recording several different tapping meditations for the Tapping Solution app – one for Racial Anxiety Relief, and a 5-Day Support Series for Depression.
So maybe now you begin to see why I am grateful to be a part of such a major worldwide event of experts and leaders that leads to a collective, large-scale healing. That has been part of my dream since entering the field of therapy, and here it is manifesting itself.
I too hope that you can find healing and help in EFT and its benefits. Whether through and by attending the Tapping World Summit, or seeking out a practitioner who uses this modality, there are several options and possibilities available for you. And if interested, please reach out and contact me to see if we’d be a good fit. I offer various packages that could help you in your healing process, and would love to talk more to see if we could work together.
Here’s to EFT and its many benefits.
